\nfront of a hushed audience,
\nand the band ready to play,
\n\u201cthe newest star from MGM, Ricky Ricardo!\u201d
\nAnd the audience clapped as he appeared
\nfrom behind the curtain with oiled black hair
\nand a bongo drum slung over his shoulders,
\nthe mating ritual began.
\nRicky sang with perspiration and teeth filled grins,
\noh, how he made Lucy scream
\nand women cream
\nfor another Latin lover in the 1950s.<\/p>\n
But somehow through it all
\npoor Ricky eventually got gypped,
\nwho would have ever thought that
\nthe stars of MGM would drop from the sky?
\n1958, that unofficial year, when:
\nsmoking was glamorous,
\nchurches, where no one talked,
\nbroad shoulder suits,
\nflowered wallpaper,
\nCuban casinos for a winter vacation,
\nand being a soldier seemed so right.<\/p>\n
In times of my own worldly wretchedness,
\nI wish that I knew that time,
\nbut common sense returns when I think of Ricky,
\nand on how
\nLucy and MGM left him behind.<\/p>\n
