Tom Wawzenek is a Chicago writer who’s plays have been staged in Chicago (Transient Theater, Cellar Door Players, Prodigal Theater Company) Milwaukee (Boulevard Ensemble), and New York (T-Bone Productions) and also at various festivals. His short stories have been published in literary magazines and zines, such as, Think Ink, Planet Rock, and Virgin Mule.
Wawzenek has also collaborated with actors and musicians in performing and recording Stories in Motion, a spoken word project that integrates his short stories with music and theater. He also works with an ensemble of actors that perform his stories and monologues at various galleries and alternative spaces in Chicago.
Wawzenek writes about the people and the neighborhoods of Chicago. Although most of his plays and stories explore the darker side of human nature, some of his stories also illustrate how life is a series of surreal experiences that defy logic and order.
He also works as a freelance writer and has been a staff writer for numerous publications and websites.
Wawzenek received his writing degree at Columbia College in Chicago. He also taught writing courses for City of Chicago employees in conjunction with Harold Washington College. He was born and raised in Chicago where he still resides.
